Very few schools fail an inspection on the quality of what they teach. They are flagged on records.
Drawing on what member schools report, these are the issues that come up most, roughly in order of frequency.
The documents
- Enrolment register, current and reconcilable to fee receipts. A mismatch between the two is the single most common flag.
- Teacher qualification file per teacher, with originals sighted and dated.
- Fee structure as notified, displayed where parents can see it.
- Building fitness certificate, in date. Check the expiry now, not the week before.
- Safety drill log. Two entries a year is the usual expectation; an empty log reads worse than a sparse one.
The premises
Clean drinking water, functioning separate toilets, and a marked fire exit that is actually clear. The exit is the one most often blocked by storage on the day.
On the day
Have one person responsible for the file and present throughout. Inspections that go badly are usually inspections where nobody could find anything.
